There was an increase in the price of morphine and heroin during the second half of the year when there was a period of acute shortage. During this period the price for morphine rose to over $17,000 per kilo, for 1st grade heroin to 333.8 per gm. and $21 per gm. for 2nd grade heroin. The retail price of 2nd grade heroin during the same period. was in the region of $31 per gm.
