REF,

I wrote to you on 8 May (CR 76/65) about a change of the Chinese immigration procedures which seemed to be affecting holders of Hong Kong re-entry permits who claimed to be British.

2.

This is just to say that the new practice has been dropped. China Travel Service have given several reasons for this, including saying that the change put too much work on their shoulders.

It

may well have been a case of a "new broom" in the form of fresh staff at the Border Defence Inspection Station.

3.

A number of people are still being refused entry to China from Hong Kong. But it is not because of the nationality question. They are simply being told that they cannot enter China because they have no advance hotel reservation.
