Dear Foreign Secretary,
The following resolution was passed at a recent meeting of our General Management Committee:-
"Putney Labour Party condemns the recent deportation back to South Vietnam of 123 Chinese political refugees seeking political asylum in Hong Kong.
According to reliable reports these refugees, including some children, have since been incarcerated in Con Son prison, and some have already died of their privations there.
We also deplore the British action in aborting the E.E.C. initiative, sponsored by France and West Germany, to propose the offer of political asylum in Europe to Chileans under sentance of death or life imprisonment.
We therefore call upon the Foreign Secretary of this, or any succeeding, Government drastically to revise Foreign Office policy concerning the granting of political asylum so as to reflect basic humanitarian principles."
