ILLEGAL IMMIGRANTS FROM SOUTH VIETNAM
2.
Thank you for your letter of 9 August.
We have been following with great interest the exploits of Sanguinetti. He is a strange man and although I have not met him personally, is well known in government circles here. I believe he is either Gibralterian or Maltese. I was told this morning by one of the Hong Kong judges that Sanguinetti was active during the time of Papadopoulos in Greece and tried, on behalf of Amnesty, to disrupt one of the trials by court martial.
3.
I am enclosing a list of the 118 prepared by our Immigration Department, together with a note based on the log book of the freighter which carried them into Hong Kong waters.
4.
You will see from the list that the names have been written in their Chinese style with Chinese characters and I am unable to say which name was the one used by Truong Hong. For obvious reasons, I am afraid I cannot indicate which are any of the other false names.
A copy of the list was given to the Vietnamese Consul General at the time.
