Thank you for your letter of 25 June, in which you enclosed correspondence sent to you by Mr. M.P. Tracy of Hastings and Company, Marina House, 1st floor, 15/19 Queen's Road Central, Hong Kong. Mr. Tracy was concerned with the case of Mr. Li Kit, one of the 119 Vietnamese recently detained in Hong Kong.
Except for one man, who claimed to have been born in Hong Kong, all the 119 were returned to South Vietnam on 17 June. This followed specific assurances to us from the South Vietnamese Government that nothing serious should happen to the group since they would be treated as innocent victims of the syndicate which had smuggled them out of Vietnam.
We have sent a copy of your letter and its enclosures to the Governor, and will write to you again when we receive his comments.
