ILLEGAL IMMIGRANTS FROM SOUTH VIETNAM

1.

Mr Ben Ford MP wrote to Lord Goronwy-Roberts on 17 June,

asking what action was to be taken concerning the 119 Vietnamese

detained in Hong Kong.

2.

I recommend that Lord Goronwy-Roberts should send a

brief reply referring to the fact that, following assurances

from the South Vietnamese Government that the group would not

be severely punished, all but one of the 119 were returned to

Vietnam on the day that Mr Ford wrote his letter. I submit a

draft accordingly.
