Re: Detention of refugees from Vietnam

arrested at sea off llong Kong

We act for Mr. Li Kit who was one of 119 people arrested on a boat at sea near Hong Kong on 2nd June and subsequently taken into custody under the authority of the Director of Immigration of the Hong Kong Government. Today, 12th June, he and the 118 other refugees are still in custody.

Mr. Li, who was born in China and who immigratod

to Vietnam in 1937, is in poor health.

He has instructed us 1-

1). To obtain his release as speedily as possible. 2). To prevent his being deported without being given the opportunity to apply to land in Hong Kong.

3). In any event, to prevent his deportation to

Bouth Vietnam.

On his behalf, as you will see from the enclosed correspondence and notes, we have applied to the Director of Immigration for i-
