A person wishing to take advantage of these Rules must make application to his local authority within six months of entering the employment of the Hong Kong Government. It would be to his advantage to be retained on the establishment of his local authority by the grant of leave without pay or otherwise the day prior to his departure for Hong Kong.

21 PRESERVATION OF TEACHERS SUPERANNUATION RIGHTS

On discontinuance of contributory service in England or Wales, or in Scotland rights may be safe-guarded by application as soon as possible to the Department of Education and Science or the Scottish Education Department as appropriate, for their consent to the payment of contributions under the Teachers (Superannuation) Act, 1937, or the Teachers (Superannuation) (Scotland) Regulations, 1957, as the case may be. It is understood that consent is normally given and, in that event, an officer is required to pay both the employee's and the employer's share of the contributions.
22 VACCINATIONS
All officers (and the wife and family of a married officer) proceeding to Hong Kong shall be in possession of valid certificates of vaccination against smallpox and cholera. They are also advised to be vaccinated against the enteric fevers and poliomyelitis. Officers are personally responsible for any charges that may be incurred in obtaining vaccinations for themselves or their families.
23 MARRIAGE OF WOMEN OFFICERS
(1) Women officers who intend to marry should inform their department, and the
head of their grade, if appropriate, giving at least one month's notice.
(ii) A woman officer appointed on agreement terms who marries during her agreement
will be permitted to serve out the remaining portion of her agreement and receive the appropriate benefits, i.e. gratuity and vacation leave. She will be granted an outward passage to her country of origin, unless she was already eligible for such passages under the terms of her husband's employment. However, a woman officer who fails to complete her agreement satisfactorily will forfeit her vacation leave and her gratuity; in the case of an overseas woman officer, she will be obliged to refund the unearned portion of her outward passage costs and will not be provided with a passage back to her country of origin from Government funds.
(iii) On marriage a woman officer loses all benefits on quarters and housing. She
will continue to receive free medical or dental treatment for herself, but not for her family.
24. MARRIAGE OF BACHELORS
If an officer, who is a bachelor at the time of his first appointment, wishes to marry before the expiry of his agreement or before he is confirmed to the pensionable establishment, he requires the approval of the Establishment Secretary for the grant of additional passages for his family and for eligibility for married quarters.
