I much appreciated my being able to pay a courtesy

call upon you on Friday, the 13th September 1974. I enjoyed too our excellent lunch, for which many thanks.

I thought our discussion was timely and valuable and

trust you felt likewise.

In particular, of course, I much appreciated your offer to give consideration to the possibility of your being able to nominate another officer as a candidate for the post of Director of Criminal Investigation of this Force. Of course, as touched upon during our conversation, it might be politic to have a likely candidate visit us as an "adviser", for, say, two months, before he or we reached any final decision.

Ferhaps in the first instance, as before, you and I could correspond personally on this issue. Thereafter, once we are heading for formal consideration, I could again ask the Secretary for the Civil Service of the Hong Kong Government to enter into the arena and have his staff deal with the matter via Commissioner of the Hong Kong Office in London. However, more of that anon.

Q.

(Brian Slevin)

Commissioner of Police

bc A.J. Scott, Esq. "

Secretary for the Civil Service.
