I write to thank you very much indeed for giving so

much of your time on Monday, 9th September 1974, but I think the two-way dialogue was of mutual value

I was very sorry indeed that my passing through London from Cannes, due to lack of time, did not allow my having a further get-together with you, but no doubt we will soon see, again out here.

It may be of interest to you to know that H.E. the Governor has agreed to my writing again to Sir Robert Mark to see if he can get us another Director of Criminal Investigation.

Sir Robert was most kind in the course of my recent meeting with him and I am sure he will do everything possible to help he made it clear that he would try to suggest someone from the provinces if he could not find a suitable officer from New Scotland Yard.

www

If he is unable to help, the door is open for us to approach Sir John Hill, HM Chief Inspector of Constabulary, once likely candidates emerge.

We will, of course, place the matter on a formal basis, as before, stemming from Alan Scott, Secretary for the Civil Service, through, I presume, Teddy Kidd. No doubt you will be kept in the picture.

Naturally this remains a highly confidential matter.
