GOVERNMENT OF HONG KONG : GODBER EXTRADITION

Thank you for your letter D/KP/SL of 8 July, enclosing a copy of

a letter from John Lester & Co of 4 July.

We telegraphed the text of Lester's letter to Hong Kong and have now received a telegram from Hong Kong in which the following reply is suggested:-

"It is at present intended that the only other evidence will be

that of Detective Superintendent Howell, who arrested Mr Godber.

The only person from whom the prosecution has taken a statement in connection with the proceedings for the return of Mr Godber to Hong Kong and whose evidence will not be before the Court either by way of affidavit or orally is Senior Superintendent Charles Stevens of Police Headquarters Hong Kong.

was interviewed by the prosecution and as a result subsequently swore two affidavits copies of which have been provided to the defence. No other statements or affidavits have been made by

to the prosecution."

Yours faithfully
