I am informed that a report has been made to you that might bring Peter Godber back to Hong Kong on a corruption charge.

The report, made to you some time agp, makes the following allegations:

1. That

now in the police station

in Yuen Long, was the right-hand man of Mr. Godber in collecting bribes for him, and that he assisted Godber's escape;

2. That this policeman, who earns less than $2000 a month, attends the most expensive nightclubs, keeps company with higher police officers, was flate costing more than half a million dollars,swas an expensive car, and a night-club (Siu Kam Wər);

3. That he has friends in the Anti-Corruption Branch, and that is why

he has escaped punishment.

May I ask you:

1. What investigations have been made (outside the Police Anti-Corruption

Branch) into these allegations?

2. What steps have been taken to prevent the possibility of this man's

escape from Hong Kong?

In view of the public outcry that Godber must be brought back, I shall be most interested to know what has been done about these allegations.

I cannot at this moment reveal the source of my information, but that will not prevent investigations inte this man's affairs. Please notice that some of his assets are in the name of his wife and other relatives.
