closed) and rented a room at No. 473, Castle Peak Road, 4/F.,

He could earn Flat A, Kowloon together with a colleague. about $600 per month in this job. In early 1971, his mother and younger sister came out from Cheung Chau Island to live together with him. He worked at the wig factory for about two years until the factory closed owing to its decline in business. He then changed to do welding work at the Chiap Wor Containers Factory in Ching Yee Island, earning $23 per working day. He worked on casual basis only and there had not been sufficient work to do, so he only worked on and off for about a year there.

In August, 1972, the Prisoner applied to be a police constable with the Royal Hong Kong Police Force. However, he was medically found unfit for the post on 26.9.1972 and was subsequently referred to attend medical treatment at the Shek Kip Mei Chest Clinic (Clinic Ref. No. 72W4351M). Starting from 13.10.1972, he was instructed to attend daily injection at the clinic. His attendance, however, was said by the clinic to be poor as he had attended for only twenty-three times during a period of three months and later failed to turn up altogether. Health visitors visited him thrice advising him to continue his

The injection treatment but their effort was of no avail. Prisoner himself explained that as he felt that he had already recovered so he discontinued the injection treatment.

It was at that time, about early 1973, the Prisoner was introduced by his associate (LEUNG Wah, a former colleague at the wig factory) to work at an illegal gambling den in Tokwawan area, and became a member of the illegal Shui-fong Triad Society, He could earn more than $2,000 a month there but this job also led him into close contacts with many dubious characters including gamblers and triad members.

The Prisoner's family had purchased a wooden hut at their present living address for $5,000 and had moved to live there since 20.8.1973.

The Prisoner said that on 31.8.1973 he and LEUNG Wah and some other friends went to play at the Paris Billiard Saloon where they met the deceased and that LEUNG Wah asked the deceased to pay back the debt of $400 to his mate (called Ming Chai) and a dispute and fight was resulted in which the present offence was committed.
