Condemned Prisoner - LAU Ming-chiu
Report by Home Affairs Department
I understand the Secretary for the New Territories will
report his findings as a result of consultation with the hearest
relative of the prisoner who lives in Tai Po.
2.
Enquiries have been made by the staff of the Sham Shui Po
City District Office where the nearest relative of the victim lives.
3.
The husband of the victim, Mr. CHEUNG Kong-ping, was also wounded during the robbery and was hospitalized for weeks. According to his nephew, Mr. CHEUNG Kong-man, the husband of the victim has been jobless after recovering from wounds. Having no children, he is
lonely and broken-hearted over his wife's death and is suffering from
a slight nervous breakdown. His livelihood is being maintained by
some friends and relatives.
4.
Mr. Cheung is also of the opinion that the victim and her husband were very hardworking. They were agreeable and good-natured persons. He and the acquaintances of the couple are very sympathetic towards them and they commented that the prisoner, LAU Ming-chiu,
must be condemned for his inhuman act.
5.
The general opinion expressed by the contacts of the City District Office remains that the death sentence should be carried out
as an effective deterrent to crimes of violence.
