a prisoner in Hong Kong Prison humbly showeth that on the 28th November, 1973, the 監獄囚犯 謹陳

appeal of your humble Petitioner was dismissed and he is now a condemned prisoner

waiting to be executed for the offence of murder.

That your humble Petitioner is seeking for mercy from His Excellency the Governor to save him from this punishment.

That your humble Petitioner is aged 20 years, and he is the 7th child in a family of 9 children ranging in age from 38 years to 16 years. Your humble Petitioner's family have always been in poor financial circumstances and in consequence thereof, your humble Petitioner has during his entire life resided in substanded overcrowded conditions in low class areas. Because of their large family, your humble Petitioner's parents were unable to exercise adequate control and discipline on your humble Petitioner nor have the time to provide him with adequate guidance and this, coupled with the fact of his environment, resulted in your humble Petitioner becoming associated with persons of a criminal nature.

Your humble Petitioner received education to primary 5 level but because of his family's financial circumstances, he was obliged at the age of 14 years to terminate his education to commence work to assist in the support of his family. On leaving school, your humble Petitioner gained employment as an apprentice with a company installing air conditioning and was so employed for approximately 12 months. Your humble Petitioner from then on took casual work as a labourer.

When your humble Fetitioner was 17 years of age, he was induced by his associates to join a triad society, thus resulting in him becoming further affiliated with persons of a criminal nature. Your humble Fetitioner was never a leader among his associates but simply followed them on any course they choose not having the courage to refuse to go along with them.

On the evening of this fatal incident, your humble Fetitioner went along with his associates, thinking that there was to be discussions only and not any fighting. Your humble Petitioner did not carry any weapons. Your humble Petitioner was the last of his associates to enter the premises at 9th Floor, No. 20 Yan Chau Street, Kowloon, where a fight which led to the death of Wong Fat Nip took place and your humble Petitioner only fought with the associates of the deceased Wong Fat Nip, in order to protect himself from their attack. Your humble Petitioner did not have the intention of inflicting harm on any- body when he entered the above referred to premises and did not think that any of his associates had such an intention. Your humble Petitioner did not strike the deceased.

That your humble Petitioner is very repentent of his action. He fully appreciates the disgrace he has brought to his honourable family and
