A. GENERAL INFORMATION
His
The Prisoner came from a large family of ten children. father who worked as sailor of the Marine Department could not earn enough to support the family. As a result he took up factory work at the time that they were resettled to live at the Sau Mou-ping housing estate in 1967. Before that, the Prisoner grew up in a squatter area at Chu Ku Chai, Yau Yat Chuen, Kowloon.
The Prisoner left school in 1962 after he completed primary six at the Tai Hang Tung Government Primary School. He did not pass the school leaving certificate examination, but managed to get admitted into a middle school at Waterloo Road for a period. He also attended some evening classes, but found himself not interested in studies.
Later, he was employed as an apprentice in electric work after he dropped out of school at fourteen. He worked mostly at construction sites in housing estates and earned an average income of $600 a month after he became skilled. He was also engaged as substitute workman in plastic factories when he was temporarily laid off.
About five months before the offence, he became rather wayward and unsettled. He stayed out of a proper job and moved out from home. He rented a room at Flat E, 61, Russell Street from the other Accused, Wun Mui-mui, and lived there with his girl-friend known as Wong Yuk-ping. During that period, he worked as an usher at East Town Theatre in Wan Chai for fourteen days. He lost contact with his folks since.
