He struck the deceased only with his hands and did not expect that the others would injure the deceased to the extent that the deceased would die from his injuries. Your humble Petitioner did not intend serious injury to the deceased and the blows which your humble Petitioner inflicted on the deceased did not cause serious injury.

That your humble Petitioner swears that he had no intention to kill the deceased and that any deception that the deceased had perpetrated had not caused any financial loss to your humble Petitioner and he consequently had no motive to inflict serious injuries on the deceased.

That this is the only occasion that your humble Petitioner has ever acted in contravention of the laws of the Colony.

That your humble Petitioner is very repentent of his action and fully appreciates the disgrace he has brought upon himself and his family and the fact that he has failed in his obligations as eldest son to his family. He realises the error of his ways in becoming associated with persons of criminal nature. Therefore he is appealing to His Excellency the Governor to pardon him for his act and to remit his present sentence of hanging and substitute one of imprisonment so that he could repent and atone for his wrong doing. That your humble Petitioner promises to remember this forever and thence forward to lead a useful, industrious life and be of benefit to the community, and his family and your Petitioner as on duty bound will ever pray,
