ANTHONY GREY:
S.T. KIDD:
TRANSCRIPT OF AN INTERVIEW GIVEN BY MR. S.T. KIDD
ON B.B.C. WORLD SERVICE PROGRAMME "TWENTYFOUR HOURS"
ON SEPTEMBER 9TH. THE INTERVIEW, BY MR. ANTHONY GREY,
WAS PRECEDED BY AN EXTRACT FROM AN INTERVIEW GIVEN BY
MR. JAMES SILLARS, M.P. ON THE B.B.C. RADIO 4 PROGRAMME
"THE WORLD TONIGHT" ON SEPTEMBER 5TH.
To take up these points, the Hong Kong Commissioner
in London, Mr. S.T. Kidd, came into the Twentyfour
Hours studio.
I asked him first whether it was true that Hong Kong
was a forgotton colony?
Well I do not think it is true in any sense, but I
think this is a typical comment derived from this
report which I find to be a disappointing document.
Disappointing in that so much obvious effort has
been devoted to researching background material,
but this has been twisted and manipulated to suit
a biased and partisan argument which does scant
justice to the post-war record of the Government
and people of Hong Kong.
ANTHONY GREY:
Partisan in which direction?
S.T. KIDD:
Partisan in destructive criticism of a very substantial
achievement in catering for a population which has
quadrupled in the past 25 years.
