All children and young persons without discrimination for reasons of parentage or other conditions are protected from moral and physical danger under the Protection of Women and Juveniles Ordinance. The Child Care Centres Bill, to be enacted soon, will ensure that nurseries, creches, babies' homes etc. designed for the care of children are of acceptable standards.
'A number of legislative measures regulating the minimum age for admission to employment are as follows:

the Factories and Industrial Undertakins Regulations prohibit the employment of any child under 14 in any industrial undertaking, any young person under 16 working on woodworking machinery, any young person under 18 on- underground work in any mine cr quarry and, except with the Commissioner for Labour and Mines' written permission, any young person in a dangerous trade;
the same regulations provide protection for young persons employed in industrial undertakings by limiting their hours of work and the loads which they may carry, and by requiring the provision of seating facilities during employment where this is practicable;

(c) the Employment of Young Persons and Children at Sea
(a)
Ordinance prohibits children under 14 from working as members of the crew on any vessel except where only members of the same family are employed;
the Merchant Shipping (International Labour Conventions). Act, 1925 which is applied to Hong Kong by the Merchant Shipping (Hong Kong) Order, prohibits the employment of young persons under 18 as trimmers and stokers;
(e) the Merchant Shipping (Recruiting of Seamen) Ordinance
prohibits the employment as seamen of young persons under the age of 18 who have not received approved training, and prohibits the employment of those under the age of 17 who have received approved training;
(f) the Radiation (Control of Radioactive Substances) Regulations
and the Radiation (Control of Irradiating Substances) Regulations prohibit the employment of persons under 18 in any radiation work or in any work or process involving the regular handling or transport of any unsealed radioactive substance;
