Thank you very much indeed for your letter of September 27th in substantive response to those I wrote to the Foreign Secretary on August 20th and 21st.
It was kind, and extremely helpful, of you to write to me so fully.
The terms finally agreed with the China Mail are considerably better than looked likely at the start of this affair and I have had a letter from the Hong Kong Journalists Association paying tribute to the part played by the Hong Kong Labour Department's conciliation officers and thanking the Foreign and Commonwealth Office for any advice or encouragement it gave to the Hong Kong Government or that Government's Labour Relations Service.
The NUJ, too, is most grateful.
