Fresh Water Fish Farming

30.

The production from inland ponds of fresh water

fish is a particularly lucrative enterprise; up to double

the cash income derived from grain crops may be obtained

from the same area of land used as a fish pond.

Light Industry

31.

There is a tin factory in WU PUI Production

Brigade under the aegis of the State-controlled SHUM CHUN

Import and Export Corporation, with a local labour force

of about 50 persons, and also a carton factory in PAK SHAN

HUI near SHUM CHUN. At least one sugar refinery, a radio

assembly and repair workshop, a small brickworks, small

rice milling plants and presses for extraction of peanut

oil also exist in the Commune area.

Two small-scale chemical fertilizer plants are

located in the SUN KONG P.B. area manufacturing nitrogenous

types of chemical fertilizer suitable for the soil in the

area.

Rice Rations

33.

Food grain is a State-controlled commodity.

Provincial policy on the individual standard ration lays

down a monthly minimum ration of 35 catties of unhusked

/ rice
