It was too soon to decide whether families could go out to rejoin Servicemen. We would withdraw the Vulcans. We should decide as a result of consultations whether to concentrate our remaining forces in one SBA or remain in two.

Hong Kong

The Hong Kong Government must pay much more towards the cost of maintaining our forces there.

Expenditure

He was calculating his savings on a total defence expenditure for next year of £4,003 million inherited in March from the previous administration. Our total non-NATO expenditure was £150 million. Of this, he hoped to save £100 million.
