DEFENCE REVIEW

The Sub-Committee of the Defence Review Steering Committee yesterday considered the form of a possible public statement (on which some addressees were earlier consulted) to be made at the time when consultations with our allies begin. They favoured submitting to Ministers a draft which was less informative than any which we had thought would be politically acceptable. The Ministry of Defence were invited to circulate a revised draft on the lines which the Sub-Committee favoured, for discussion al a meeting next Friday. I should be grateful, therefore, for comments on the text attached, by am. Tuesday, 8 October. I hope it creates no particular difficulty for anybody.
