Mauritius There is a commitment to consult with the government of Mauritius in the event of any internal or external threat. There
is a contingency plan to airlift one battalion from the UK for internal security purposes.
G) Kenya There is a commitment to give urgent consideration to a situation arising from outright aggression from Somalia.

South Africa Under the Simonstown agreement the United Kingdom is entitled to use naval facilities.
I) SEATO The previous government made force declarations to certain SEATO plans. However, these plans have been suspended, and the force declarations are therefore in abeyance. The UK participates in SEATO exercises. UK participation in the civil activities of SEATO and our contribution to the budget cost about £100,000 a year, mostly on the FCO vote. Our commitment under the treaty itself is "to act in accordance with our constitutional processes in the event of aggression by means of armed attack in the treaty area against any of the Parties" or to "consult" in the event of a lesser threat. J) Korea In the joint policy declaration issued in Washington in July 1953, the 16 nations which had contributed to the United Nations Forces in Korea undertook to be "united and prompt to resist" in any renewal of the armed attack on South Korea. The view of legal advisers is that this does not impose any requirement to take any particular military action. A token detachment of some 20 men for the Honour Guard so maintained in Korea.
