The Hong Kong Polytechnic

The Polytechnic is an autonomous institution financed by grants through the Univer- sity and Polytechnic Grants Committee.

In September 1972 there were eight Departments: Building Surveying and Structura Engineering, Mechanical Production and Marine Engineering, Commerce and Manage- ment Studies, Textiles, Mathematics and Science, Electrical Engineering, Nautical Studies, Industrial and Commercial Art. There were approximately 1,600 full-time and 10,800 part-time students.

It is planned to establish during 1973-74 the following six new Departments: Business Studies, Languages, Civil and Structural Engineering, Electronics Engineering, Produc- tion and Industrial Engineering and Computing Science. By 1978 it is planned to have approximately 8,000 full-time equivalent day students and 20,000 evening students.
