obtains in respect of grammar type to vocational type places. To provide, in the long term, for 3 years of assisted post-primary educa- tion for 100% of the 12-14 age-group and sufficient places in Govern- ment and fully-aided secondary schools for a 5-year course, leading to a Certificate of Education, for 40% of the 12-16 age-group, we recom- mend provision of the following proportion of places:
(i) 3-year places:
(a) prevocational places: 22% of the 12-14 age-group.
(b) remainder of places: 78%-These are to be spread through grammar and secondary technical schools (see below), asymmetrical and selected private schools.
(ii) 5-year course:
(a) Secondary Technical type places: 16% of the 12-16 age-
group.
(b) Secondary Grammar type places: 24% of the 12-16 age-
group.
We envisage here an increase in the practical content of the 5-year course in grammar schools by the introduction of such subjects as Home Economics, Commercial Subjects, Craftwork, and Design and recom- mend that the number of such places in grammar schools with a broader based curriculum should be to the order of half the total number of 5-year places to be provided in Grammar Schools.
20. The apportionment of the places in terms of total requirements to achieve the ultimate objectives are shown in the following diagram.
