As with the five government junior English schools for English-speaking children, no guarantee of admission to King George V School can be given and parents are advised to apply for admission of their children well in advance of their arrival in Hong Kong.

THE ENGLISH SCHOOLS FOUNDATION

The English Schools Foundation, established by ordinance in 1967, operates two Government-aided schools to cater for English-speaking children.

Beacon Hill Junior School offers a course similar in content to that of the government junior English schools for children in the age range 5 to 11+.. The staff consists of fully-qualified teachers and the tuition fees are the same as in government junior English schools.

The school is situated at the junction of Edé Road and Warwick Road in northern Kowloon.

A

Island School, Bowen Road, Hong Kong is a secondary school run on similar lines to King George V School with fully-qualified staff and offers courses leading to General Certificate of Education '0' and 'A' levels and the C.S.E. examinations. The school caters for pupils up to Form Upper 6 level.

With regard to language teaching French is taught up to the C.S.E. level and to '0' and 'A' levels of the G.C.E. German and Spanish are taught to '0' and 'A' levels of the G.C.E. while Latin is taught to G.C.E. 'O' level only.

Both Beacon Hill School and the Island School are fully integrated with the Government Junior English Schools and King George V School with regard to admission and transfer of pupils.

For further information and details concerning these schools, enquiries may be addressed to the Secretary, The English Schools Foundation, c/o, Island School, Borrett Road, Hong Kong, or direct to the Heads of the schools.

THE HONG KONG INTERNATIONAL SCHOOL

The Hong Kong International School, an American-type school owned and operated by the Lutheran Church-Missouri Synod, provides education for approximately 1,000 boys and girls in both elementary and high school grades. This school is intended primarily for children planning advanced study in North American colleges and universities although children of all nationalities are eligible for admission. The fees charged are considerably higher than in

government and government-aided schools.

A number of good government-aided secondary schools are run by various religious denominations, (Anglican, Roman Catholic and Non-Conformist). These schools, although intended primarily to provide an education in the medium of English for Chinese pupils, admit non-Chinese pupils at all stages above Form 1 if they have vacancies. Students are prepared for the Hong Kong Certificate of Education (English) Examination and the Advanced Level Examina- tion of the University of Hong Kong, while some pupils are entered privately for the London General Certificate of Education Examination at the Ordinary ...and Advanced Levels.

SCHOOL FEES

T

The fees charged in Junior English Schools are $1,330 per year and $2,530 in King George V School and Island School as from January 1974.
