1.

You kindly wrote to me on 17 June about the senior Adviser post in the Education Department in Hong Kong. I am sorry that it has taken so long to reply; but we were indeed grateful for your suggestions.

2.

You mentioned Stan Wood, whom I did indeed know well in Barbados. I had a word with the ODM Education Advisers, but they were firmly of the view that this would not be the right job for Stan. So I felt obliged to leave it at that.

3.

You also mentioned that you had an entre to the Association of Directors of Education in Scotland, and kindly offered to ask unofficially whether they might have a man of the right calibre available and interested. I wonder if we might hold this suggestion in abeyance for the moment. Yesterday I discussed the whole question of this appointment at a meeting with the Hong Kong Commissioner and two of the ODM Education Advisers, and it was clear that we should have to consult Hong Kong again before going any further.

4.

You may be interested to know that the Director of Education designate, Ken Topley, will be in this country in August and early September.
