VISIT TO UK BY MR TOPLEY

1. I phoned your secretary yesterday to enquire what arrangements were being made with regard to the programme suggested by Hong Kong in their telegram no 745 of

11 July. I understand that you will be seeing Mr Topley next week and will discuss with him the various attachments that have been suggested.

2.

As I am going on leave today for 3 weeks, I would like to confirm that Mr Stuart would very much like to meet Mr Topley and give him lunch; would you be kind enough to ask him to contact Mr Stuart after 19 August to arrange a mutually convenient time?

3. As you know, I have written to the British High Commission, Singapore, warning them that Mr Topley will be calling there for 3 or 4 days. They have replied (you should have received a copy of their letter of 24 July) welcoming the visit. As soon as it is known when Mr Topley will be leaving the UK for Singapore, we will need to let the British High Commission know so that they

I can clear the visit with the Singapore authorities. would expect that Mr Topley will be arriving in Singapore round about 16 September, but perhaps you could raise this with him at your meeting next week, and in my absence inform Mrs Johnson, of this Department (Main A Ext 479).
