You will recall that Mr Thornton ODA's Chief

Education Adviser, has been engaged in /recruitment of a successor to Mr Canning, his main source for candidates being the Directors of Education who have been made redundant as a result of the reorganisation of Local Authorities.

2.

Mr Thornton telephoned to say that he has several good candidates in view but can go no further with selec- tion until he knows the salary and terms of service to be offered. I attach a draft telegram to Hong Kong which has been agreed by Mr Thornton.
