Deduction to take account of Grants by Local Authorities
15.
In paragraph 251(a) of their Report, the Commission stated that it would be unusual for a local authority to award a grant to the children of an officer living in Hong Kong but that if it did so it would take into account any assistance given by the Hong Kong Government. They went on to say that
it would "be inequitable therefore to continue the present practice whereby the amount of the Hong Kong Government assistance is again reduced by the amount of the local authority grant". The Commission's recommendation that this restriction be removed has been accepted provided that the total assistance received by the officer does not exceed the school fees.
