IMPORTATION OF CHINESE WILDLIFE INTO HONG KONG

I am grateful for the information provided

and Since

in your letter of 9 October. At least we now know that the 'artificial' production of Giant Salamanders is small - certainly not 20 metric tons a year that the local importers' claim is disproved. the facts to hand do not positively indicate wrong placement of the species in the International Convention, we would not wish to pursue the matter. If further information comes your way, please transmit it to us. Meanwhile we will continue to prohibit imports of the species.

2.

In

In the period July to September 1974, 526 Chinese Pangolins were imported into Hong Kong. view of the large imports, we would like you to find out as much as possible about their production in China and the export quota, so that we can consider the matter further.

3.

Our latest returns from the trade show also that 13 Jankowski swans (Cygnus Boviokii Jankowski) which are on the protected list of the International Convention, were imported into Hong Kong from China in the period July to September 1974. Could you also try to ascertain whether they need to be protected in China?
