Dear Sir,
It has come to my attention that anima 1s caught in China are transported to shops in Hong Kong and sold to restaurants there.
The terrible cruelties inflicted in transit on these defenceless animals and birds in the mistaken belief that eaten they provide some aphrodisiac or medical value is something that should be stamped cut immediately. As Hong Kong is a British colony I protest most strongly that this awful trade is allowed.
Animal lovers who have been informed of the situation are shocked and horrified to hear that some of these poor creatures scales are ripped off while still alive, some killed by scalding and that monkeys brains have to be eaten while the animal is still alive. A di sgrace to any society and doubly so to the British who are considered to be the greatest animal lovers in the world.
While we in this country are not blameless when it comes to cruelty to animals I doubt if we could provide anything to equal this barbaric senseless torture. I appeal to you to bring pressure to bear on the colony of Hong Kong authorities and would inform you that I have also written to the Governor of Hong Kong expressing my horror and diamay at what is happening there.
In this so-called civilised day and are we should all join to preserve wild life and certainly should never stand by while trade and practices of this type take place.
Yours faithfully,
Milowe.
(Mrs) J.L Rowe
