Thank you for your further letter of 3 February about the BBC 4 radio programme on the Import of Wildlife from China into Hong Kong. This may have crossed in the post with my interim reply to you dated 31 January.
The fact that we have not yet been able to let you have a full reply does not mean that no action is being taken. The Government of Hong Kong have already taken certain measures to deal with this problem for instance they have banned the import of all species listed in Schedule I to the Convention on International Trade in Endangered Species of Wild Fauna and Flora. The issue is however very complex and we are consulting the Governor of Hong Kong to discover what further measures are being taken or could be taken to improve the situation.
As soon as this has been decided I will write to you again.
