1. I do not know to what extent you have been involved
the exchange of telegrams over the appointment of a senior
Hong Kong Representative to Brussels but, now that it has
apparently been agreed in principle that Mr Burgess should
come here, there are one or two points it would be useful to
have cleared up.
2.
First and foremost, it would be nice to know whether
anyone has yet said anything about the matter to Patrick Dodge,
the present Hong Kong Representative; for obvious reasons,
we have not said anything to him ourselves. Perhaps you could also find out discreetly from Hong Kong what, if any,
assistance they expect us to provide in connection with
Mr Burgess's arrival.
