In your letter of 14 February to Norman Statham in Bahn you asked for our comments on long kong's relations with EEC countries.
2. Hong Kong's interests here are, needless to say, very marginal. They do sell a few goods but these are supplied from Germany. I am told that a Hong Kong representative used to come here from time to time five years ago but we have not seen him since then. We could appoint one of our staff as a link with Hong Kong as suggested by Mr Royle, but, in the case of Luxembourg, I wonder if it would not be better for the full time Counseller attached to the Embassy in Brussels to cover Luxembourg as well. We are a very small Embassy and, as we are only two and a half hours from Brussels, it would be quite convenient for him to come down from time to time. Cur Labour and Defence Attachés and a Commercial Counsellor cover luxembourg from Brussels, and I see no reason why the Hong Kong Counsellor cannot do likewise. We would, of course, be prepared to help with arrangements for any visits.

3. If for some reason, this is impossible we would of course be prepared to appoint a "Hong Fong Liaison Officer" on the under- standing that this will not involve a significant increase in work.
