In your letter of July 19th to Kieran Prendergast, you agreed that we should continue to press for an inter- view for Dodge with the development cooperation side of the Foreign Ministry.

2.

I raised the matter with the Deputy-Director for International Cooperation. Rutten immediately agreed that Dodge should at least receive a hearing. He said he would instruct the official responsible, van der Tak, to arrange for a joint meeting with van Geen, Deputy-Director for European Integration.

3.

Rutten obviously had some familiarity with the ques- tion. He seemed inclined to agree with the Commission that there was a good case for footwear to be included, for the reason given in paragraph 7 of the memorandum, but he did not seem so sympathetic on the textile industry, which, he understood, consisted of larger units.

4.

Doubtless you or Dodge will be letting us know when he will be coming here.
