HONG KONG'S REPRESENTATION IN EEC CAPITALS
Following a meeting with Kr Jordan during his visit last December, Mr Anthony Royle suggested that the British embassies in EEC capitals might choose one of their number to assist the Hong Kong Government in building up better links with individual EEC countries. Mr Nigel Watt, a senior Hong Kong Government officer, has just completed a tour of European capitals to assess Hong Kong's image and survey her public relations effort in the EEC. His conclusions were that, rather than involve the British embassies in extra work (and additional recruitment of staff), more could be done to improve the services of the Hong Kong Tourist Board and the Trade Development Council, both of which are represented in all member states. He also thought that the Hong Kong representatives office in Brussels might also be strengthened. FCO are giving the matter further consideration in the light of Mr Watt's suggestions (which come as something of a relief to the Department of Trade).
