The newly set-up Action Committee on

Generalised Preferences met at the offices of the

Trade Development Council yesterday (Wednesday,

April 10) to discuss progress in seeking access to

the E.E.C. General Preference Scheme for Hong Kong

textiles and footwear,

The committee met under the Chairman-

ship of Sir Y.K. Kan, T.D.C. Chairman and was

attended by heads of the local leading trade and

industrial associations involved in the two

industries.

The committee decided to urge the

government to pursue ways and means of redressing

the discrimination against our textile and footwear

industries in respect of the British acceptance

of the E.E.C. General Preference Scheme to the

benefit of our principal competitors.

Members of the committee will ask

the government to confirm the British government's

intention of seeking re-negotiation with the

E.E.C. Commission as in the manner proposed by

the Secretary of State last year.
