be looked at. The latest figures show that the GCPI is still rising and was 187 in March 1974 (as against 153 in March 1973). There has almost certainly been a further erosion of real wages and this may continue during this year. We have yet to hear any suggestions as to what the Hong Kong Government will do in that event.
9. Hong Kong have not commented on the suggestion in para.13 of my report that the Government might publicly advocate private employers making similar adjustments to those the Government will be making in respect of its lower paid employees based on the MCPI.
