RECEIVED IN REGISTRY No.

HKK 3/548/3.
SPONSORED VISITS OF MEMBERS OF PARLIAMENT TO HONG KONG
4.
Mr Goronwy-Roberts may wish to know the present
arrangements for visits by MPs to Hong Kong.
2.
The Hong Kong Government have for some time invited and
normally paid for approx. 8 MPs a year in four parties of two) to visit
Hong Kong as guests of the Hong Kong Government. The selection
of MPs to be invited has been in the hands of the Chairman of
the Hong Kong Parliamentary Group, in cooperation with the Hong Kong
Association and the Hong Kong Commissioner in London.
3.
Invitations had already been issued, before the elections,
to Mr James Johnson, Mr B T Ford and Mr K Marks to go to Hong Kong
over Easter. All of these would be repeat visits. I understand
that the invitations have been re-affirmed and accepted since the
elections.
The
A list had been prepared for subsequent visits in 1974,
but the Hong Kong Commissioner is reviewing this in the light of the
results of the elections and the fact that the Chairman of the Hong
Kong Parliamentary Group, Sir John Tilney, has now left Parliament.
