VISIT TO LONDON BY MR ASTON, HONG KONG
1. We discussed Mr Aston's proposed return to London in connection with the MRTS talks at the end of the month.
2. I have confirmed with the Deputy Chief Clerk and at his suggestion with Mr Crawford, Accommodation and Services Department, and also with EPD that none of these consider it necessary for Mr Aston to return from their point of view. It is likely that the Chief Inspector will be going to Hong Kong and the Chief Clerk was of course there recently. Mr Finlayson will also be going in November.
3. I have told Mr Glaves-Smith that there is no need for Mir Aston to return from the FCO's point of view.
Mr Glaves-Smith, who as you know also sees no need in this, will be telegraphing personally.
