Projects Group quoting a statement on 26 October in Hong Kong

by Lord Drumalbyn including the following passage: "It is a

powerful group both in experience and resources and it has the

assured and whole-hearted support from the British Government

including the financial aspects. The letter was to notify

Overseas Projects Group that in view of this statement

Dashwood Finance (Mr Aziz's company) was withdrawing from the

project.

5. The Minister may also wish to see Hong Kong telegram

number CHRISTIAN 26 of 12 September from Ir Aston, Senior

British Trade Commissioner, to Mr Watson in Overseas Projects

Group, Mr Watson's reply telegram number CHRISTIAN 21 of

13 September, together with Department of Trade and Industry

telegram CREDA 187 to Tokyo of 14 September. These concern

mainly Fr Aziz's activities in Hong Kong and Tokyo which

appeared to be aimed at undermining the credibility of the

British group.
