Dear Prime Minister,
R2419
On the 11th September, 1973 I had the opportunity of addressing the latest graduate class from the World-Wide Sea Training School, an academy fully operated in Hong Kong by the World-Wide Shipping Group. The address brought to mind our own talks during the past year during which current and projected tonnage figures under the control of owners in Hong Kong were mentioned and I hope that the following quoted extract will be of interest whilst at the same time updating figures mentioned earlier.
"My forecast during a previous ceremony that the total Hongkong owned and controlled tonnage could well reach 20 million dead- weight tons by 1975 is likely to be exceeded if the present rate of increase continues. I will in fact not be surprised if the 1985 Hongkong figure catches up with the total tonnage of the whole of The United Kingdom will control at that time. !!
You may also be interested to hear that at the end of 1973 the World-Wide Shipping Group will have 6, 792, 137 tons of shipping afloat. Taking into account our newbuilding orders totalling 10,667, 491 scheduled for delivery before the end of 1977 the Group's total fleet will be in the region of 17.5 million tons.
With kindest regards and looking forward to the pleasure
of meeting you again soon.
your singely,
J
