In one of the buildings of the farm, the officers found a quantity of manu- facturing paraphernalia, including, a buchner flask and funnel. Twelve drying trays, each containing a pound of No. 4 heroin were also seized from this building.

hut a large drum containing a quantity of morphine in solution form was seized. The total seizure in the premises amounted to 2,060.4 grammes of a mixture containing 575.6 grammes of salts of esters of morphine, 867.9 grammes of a mixture containing 146.4 grammes of barbitone, 40.9 grammes of a mixture containing 13.1 grammes of salts of esters of morphine and 0.9 grammes of barbitone, 16.4 grammes of heroin pills and 12 litres of a solution containing 6.9 grammes of a salt of morphine. So and CHAU were jointly charged with Manufacturing a Dangerous Drug and Possession of Dangerous Drugs for the Purpose of Unlawful Trafficking. So was convicted on the manufacturing charge and sentenced to 10 years imprisonment. In respect of the second charge he was found guilty of simple possession and sentenced to 3 years imprisonment, sentences to run concurrently. CHAU was found not guilty of manufacturing, but found guilty of simple possession in respect of the second charge and sentenced to 2 years imprisonment.

(3) On 7th February, 1973, officers of the Preventive Service were on routine patrol at So Koon Wat Village, New Territories, when they detected a faint smell of opium wafting from the village shrine. The shrine was searched and quantities of prepared opium, raw opium residue, opium dross, opium water and opium manufacturing equipment were seized. The total seizure consisted of 2.357 kilogrammes of prepared opium, 3.462 kilogrammes of raw opium residue, 640 grammes of opium dross and 7.572 litres of opium water. Enquiries failed to establish ownership of the drugs and no
arrest was made.
