The success rate is estimated on the basis explained in paragraph 8 of the paper a basis worked out on the advice of the U.N. Division of Narcotic Drugs. (The follow-up period for the later years has not, of course, yet been completed; but there is no present reason to expect that the success rates during them will prove to differ significantly from that of 1969).

The 1969 number treated was low on account of the reorganization which followed the enactment of the Drug Addiction Treatment Centres Ordinance, Cap 244.

The figures given all relate to Tai Lam. At Ma Po Ping costs must be higher per capita, since addicts spend on average between 25% and 50% longer being treated
there.
