ABSTRACT

Illicit traffic in opium narcotics on a world scale presents a grave threat to the security of the West. International action through established organizations within the United Nations offers some degree of control. Measures already taken by the Governments of Turkey and Iran are reducing the flow of narcotics through Europe.

The Chinese Peoples Republic and the Border States of Burma, Thailand and Laos continue to provide a major world flow of narcotics through Far Eastern ports. Now that the Chinese Peoples Republic is a member of the United Nations, the initiative will rest with Peking to stop this traffic.
