ADHOC COMMITTEE FOR THE FAR EAST

I

undertook at the Narcotics Commission in February to let you know informally whom the United Kingdom would be nominating as its representative for the Adhoc Committee after it is approved by ECOSOC. can now tell you that it has been decided that I should take this on. I shall look forward to renewing my acquaintance with you if and when the Committee is formally approved.

I should be grateful if you would give me, in confidence, your personal views on a point which we are currently considering here. This is whether it would be appropriate and helpful for the United Kingdom representative on the Adhoc Committee to be accompanied by an adviser from Hong Kong who would be an expert in law enforcement matters. I should stress that we are very much at the preliminary stage of considering this proposition. ke would welcome your views in the light of your experience with the Adhoc Committee for the Near and Middle East and of your knowledge of the political considerations in the Far East.

Yours sincerely

C J TRAIN
