As for the general allegations of corruption, this is of course a grave and worrying problem. But there is no doubt that the Hong Kong Government are tackling it vigorously. Police disciplinary regulations and administrative orders designed to deal with allegations of corruption in Hong Kong are the most stringent of all the Dependent Territories. It is a great pity that ex-Chief Superintendent Godber was able to leave Hong Kong, but it should not be forgotten that had it not been for the determined action by the police, the case might never have been uncovered at all.

The Governor is determined to eradicate any corruption that exists in the Hong Kong Police Force and in this he has my fullest support. I have discussed the problem with tr Governor again this week and we have decided on certain action that should be taken in connection with the wider problem of corruption.. If you would like to discuss this question with me, perhaps we could arrange to meet.sometime.
