NOTES FOR SUPPLEMENTARIES

In view of the present public disquiet in Hong Kong over

corruption within Government Departments, why is it

considered that an inquiry is unnecessary?

1. The Government of Hong Kong is well aware of the

problem and is tackling it vigorously through its Anti-

corruption Office.

Is it considered that the Anti-corruption Office has

adequate standing and resources for investigating

allegations of corruption?

2. The Anti-corruption Office has a total staff strength

of 191 and is headed by an Assistant Commissioner of

Police, who is advised by a principal Crown Counsel.

Overall guidance is given by a committee of 2 prominent

members of the public and 3 officials from outside the

Police Force.
